Located in the heart of the Southern Riverina just 10 minutes north of the Murray River, the Finley Golf Club has been a cornerstone of the community for over a century — shaped by the dedication of volunteers who have proudly carried the motto "The Finley Golf Club — The Friendly Club."
1921
The Finley Golf Club was first established on what was then the old racecourse reserve — the area where the Finley Hospital, High School and RS Club stand today. Members operated from the derelict racing stables where both club and playing facilities were rather primitive.
c. 1930
The first proper Club House was built and the course underwent significant improvement. Netting bunkers gave way to conventional sand traps and the fairways were properly defined for the first time.
1939–1945
The club entered a period of recess during World War 2, as did many sporting clubs across Australia. The course and facilities were placed in abeyance for the duration of the war.
1946
The club was re-activated following the end of World War 2. It quickly became apparent that the existing 9-hole course was totally inadequate for the club's growing membership and ambitions.
1954
After a tremendous effort by members and volunteers, the club relocated to its present site on Tongs Street — a move that set the foundation for steady and sustained improvement for members and visitors alike.
1978
The original Club House — which had been relocated from the old course — was replaced with the present building. An ongoing improvement program has continued ever since, with sand scrapes and natural fairways giving way to watered grass greens and fairways.
Today
The Finley Golf Club continues to thrive as a welcoming, volunteer-run club at the heart of the Southern Riverina community. Carefully maintained by a dedicated band of volunteers, the course remains one of the most affordable and accessible in the region.
